Interesting mix of styles and influences on this album. Starts off as pretty standard black metal on track 1. Moves into American atmospheric black metal (2-4), then DSBM-ish (track 5), before ending with some old school Celtic Frost-esque riffing and roaring on track 6. Mixed bag, but works very well. I'd say Havukruunu is the rightful holder of the Crown and the mantle of Quorthon. Epic choirs, vikingesque themes and tales from the other times, of the Finnish paganism back in the days before our ancestors were brought to the cross and forced to kneel while feeling the bloody sword of saviour on their throats made to kiss the hand of murderers who burnt thousands, tore down our holy places and took our holy days. Eyes teary I listen to these songs, never forgiving the crimes of the cross! Peikonmieli
AMAZING Black Metal/Death Metal, one of the best albums out of this style since the 90’s. Obviously everyone is compared to Dissection - and this is as close to that level as I’ve heard in a long time - but this is much heavier and thrashier with a lot different lyrical content, much more based in Norse content. Terry Venemous is releasing new music every 3 weeks this year. His latest EP is sumptuous art pop with a wry sense of detachment.
